Perseid Meteor ShowerNot as great as last year but still worthy of watching. The Full Moon will compete with the shower this year, lowering the peak-rates to around 40 or 60 meteors per hour at best, even in the darkest of skies. The peak time is Aug 10-13 but you can see meteors for about a week before and after, so start watching now! The earlier you watch, the less the moon will be in the way, so watching a few days before the peak might actually be better if not the same. For more stargazing events this month, see What’s Up for August. Also, Semi-Relevant/Informative post from last year

look at this shit eating grin. this man thinks he has posed an unanswerable question to evolutionary biologists that will shake the very foundation of the theory of evolution to its core when any 14-year-old can tell you that we literally did not evolve from monkeys. amazing

Maybe it would help if, instead of laughing at these miseducated people, we explain the answers to the questions? Just by laughing at them we make them angry, thus less likely to want to listen to us, and we don’t actually teach them anything proper.

Unfortunately the Creationists with this exact mindset (we come from monkeys) do not listen to any scientific facts you can provide. I’ve argued with too many monkey-theorists to now understand it’s wasted breath. I’ve talked to many Creationists with differing notions of evolution, and even though I have given them far better facts and evidence than their religion has provided, they still will never believe evolution. It’s a terrible mindset as a scientist, but I’d rather laugh at the idiot adults who still believe in fairy tales, and just turn my attention to children and young adults who I can hopefully sway with science and truth.
